In the shadow of the Second World War, Carson Shaw jumps on a moving train to attend try outs for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) alongside fellow hopefuls Greta Gill, Jo DeLuca and Lupe Garcia. Star pitcher Maxine 'Max' Chapman is denied her chance because of the colour of her skin in an era of segregation and prejudice but she refuses to give up on her dream.
