It's not long now until the much-anticipated second season of the critically acclaimed Handmaid's Tale kicks off, and while trailers have dropped giving us an idea of what to expect, the fate of Alexis Bledel's character Ofglen/Emily had yet to be revealed.

Last we saw of her she was joyriding a black van around Gilead before knocking down a guard, an act that we knew she would be punished severely for, maybe even killed. Thankfully, the latter was not the case although things aren't looking too great for her.

Hulu has confirmed via a picture on their Instagram account that Emily is now in the Colonies, which we will see for the first time in season two. It's where infertile women and Gilead opposers are sent to clean up toxic waste.

It looks GRIM.

We’re entering uncharted territory. Season 2 of @handmaidsonhulu begins April 25.

Bledel told Entertainment Weekly: "Life in the Colonies is a last stop. Emily does not have a great deal of hope for a future there; she knows her days are numbered."

She continued: "Being forced to exist in either Gilead or the Colonies threatens to destroy a person’s soul in different ways. Handmaids are forced to follow an extremely limiting set of rules to comply with the mandates of the Gileadean regime, including the horrific monthly ceremony.

"Anyone in Gilead would be terrified to be sent to the Colonies. Everything from the soil the unwomen turn over to the water they use to wash is toxic in the Colonies, so a person’s health begins to rapidly deteriorate as soon as they get there. They know they will die there, all the while forced to do hard labor without decent food to eat or clean living conditions."

"Emily does not have a great deal of hope for a future there; she knows her days are numbered."

At least there might be some familiar faces there with her, as the latest teaser trailer showed Janine (Maddie Brewer) in the colonies after she attempted suicide last season while Marisa Tomei's character is also set to be there, so who knows what might go down.

Season 2 premieres April 25th on Hulu. It's been confirmed season two will be shown on Channel 4 in the UK, but there is no air date currently set.
