The Week In Telly comes to you a day later than usual, but sure didn't we have to celebrate St Patrick driving the schnakes out of Ireland by watching War Of The Buttons on d'telly? Anyway, in honor of our patron saint, we've decided to give you an extra day of TV action in this week's installment. So, with a shillelagh under me arm and a toorah loorah lie, here goes!
On Monday we discovered that Stuart Townsend was still alive, had a Game of Thrones refresher ahead of Season 3, whooped with delight when pictures of the Sherlock Season 3 read through popped up online, and found out who'd be up for what at the British Soap Awards. There was some sad news too, as the world waved goodbye to Tony Gubba. We did find time to laugh in the evening though, when Republic of Telly took on Off The Rails.
Tuesday was dominated by gossip from The Hills (I know, what is this? 2010?), while Rob Lowe signed up for some 80s TV, and John Malkovich did a Johnny Depp. We found out what happened to Mr Kraft from Sabrina, got some worrying news about Danger Mouse and discovered John Hamm looks just as good in pencil. Oh, and Benedict Cumberbatch kind of made our day when he let slip a few secrets about the future of Sherlock. Eek.
#PopeWatch took over on Wednesday, as the world watched the seagull and waited for white smoke. In the meantime, Justin Bieber's ma learned to avoid joking on twitter, Justin Timberlake got a TV special, and yer man from Blade Runner shot some scenes with Vinny from Home And Away. The tabloids got the rumors about our Brian Dowling going, N*Sync were ruled out of The Big Reunion and we told the world why Father Dougal should be Pope. Seems our efforts were in vain though, as they picked young Francis that evening. The good folks at TV3 made sure we didn't miss Emmerdale though, sending Il Papa to 3e just in time.
By Thursday things calmed down, but there was some rather exciting news for Veronica Mars fans, who raised over $2 million to make a movie follow-up to the cancelled TV show, and a sneak peek behind the scenes of Breaking Bad did hit the internet. Of course, Benedict Cumberbatch was everywhere again, and Malcolm's ma off Malcolm In The Middle signed up for a Gavin and Stacey remake. Here's hoping it doesn't go down The Inbetweeners route.
Friday was rather busy, what with news filtering through about Ron Burgundy, Tommy Tiernan doing his own Moone Boy and yer man who played Hitler in Downfall signing up to play the Pope. Comic Relief took over the telly from 7pm, giving us Damian Lewis in The Vicar of Dibley, Louis Walsh in a wedding dress (he looked far too well in that Kate Middleton-esque gown) and Ricky Gervais' political reggae song, Equality Street. Don't ask, just watch.
By the time the weekend rolled around we were trying to keep up with all the videos popping up online. Game of Thrones dominated the weekend with a teaser trailer double whammy (we'll have seen the whole thing by the time it hits our TV screens), while Doctor Who dropped a new sneak peek at Season 7.5. Saturday night's big surprise was Ant and Dec's Riverdance. The Geordie duo could have given Flatley a run for his money in fairness, and the Paddy dominated Saturday Night Takeaway credits were a nice touch.
And then on Sunday The Voice of Ireland returned for its first live show. There was plenty of inter-coach banter, singing and eliminating, but sure it all paled into insignificance when the world clapped eyes on Sharon Corr's guna. Never mind trying to get gold pants trending lads, just trust the viewers to point out that the yoke on her dress looks like a lace thong. And sure then Bressie got the conversation going on Twitter with #thonggate. She still looked smashing though, as always.
