Watch out Chris O'Dowd, there's another Irish comedy star making an original comedy series for Sky1! Yup, Tommy Tiernan's just been given the go ahead to write, direct and star in his very own sitcom about a discharged psychiatric patient who goes home to live with his mammy.

Much like Moone Boy, the series (which has yet to be named) will be shot right here on the Emerald Isle, with filming taking place primarily around his home county of Meath later this year. And of course Tommy will be playing the main man himself.

He was on the wireless chatting to Ray D'Arcy about it, and said the commission has come off the back of the Little Crackers short he made for Sky1 last Christmas. "They came back to me and said, "Would you like to do a series?" and I said, "I'd love to. Can I write, direct and act in it?” and they said "Of course you can."

We're guessing this one is going to be a lot of fun, especially since Tiernan's offered up the odd teaser. Among the cast of characters there will be a bedridden father, and a brother who has a penchant for bodybuilding apparently.

We'll be keeping our eyes and ears open for more on this one!
