HMP Norwich in Norfolk houses more than 750 adult inmates and young offenders, from seasoned criminals to those serving their first prison sentence. Most of these prisoners are husbands, fathers, and sons, and when coping with the harsh realities of prison life, their families provide a lifeline. However, many families don’t survive this extreme test of separation, and nearly half of all prisoners there lose touch with their family. At the same time, those who manage to maintain ties with loved ones are six times less likely to reoffend. HMP Norwich works with offenders and their families to keep them together as they try to end the cycle of offending.
