The lyrics might not make an inch of sense, but that fits in with The Addams Family esthetic, we think. The Cramps' song 'Goo Goo Muck' has seen a streaming surge in the US following its prominent use in Netflix's Wednesday Addams show.

'Wednesday', starring Jenna Ortega as the solemn lover of solitude, is placed within The Addams Family universe and follows the titular character as she settles into her new life at Nevermore Academy. Episode four of the series sees her begrudgingly attend a ball, and when she hears 'Goo Goo Muck' come on, she can't help but steal the spotlight on the dancefloor with her very unorthodox dance moves.

A kooky highlight of the eight-episode fantasy, the dance number was being shared online by fans before Netflix promptly decided it was time to release the full dance too, which already has 8.5 million views on YouTube alone.

Now, it turns out that the song used has been gathering extremely impressive streams over the past two weeks or so. 'Goo Goo Muck' by The Cramps is over forty years old at this stage, having appeared on the band's 1981 album 'Psychedelic Jungle', and is actually a cover of a monster rock song originally created by Ronnie Cook and The Gaylads in 1962.

Since featuring in 'Wednesday', The Cramps version of the track has seen a 5000% increase in streams just five days after the series was released on Netflix. Jim Shaw, who owns the publishing rights to the track, said the song’s resurgence was "a really amazing, fun little bonanza". 'Goo Goo Muck' now has nearly 10 million streams on Spotify.

The track also reached number 20 in the Irish Shazam charts.

The power of a Netflix series on classic songs, eh? Two huge releases for the streamer this year, 'Wednesday' and 'Stranger Things', share more things in common than we might think. Not only have both YA series re-introduced songs to new generations (we all remember the Kate Bush resurgence during the summer), but they also shared similar viewing numbers.

'Stranger Things' season four had been Netflix's most popular English-speaking series ever, amassing 335.01 million hours in its first week of release during May/June, but 'Wednesday' has surprisingly outstripped the tentpole and clocked in 341.23 million hours viewed since its debut on November 23. While a second season hasn't yet been greenlit, it's pretty safe to say that we'll be getting plenty more Addams Family spookiness in the future.
