'Squid Game' fans, you don't have too much longer to wait for your next fix.

We've had the TV phenomenon that is 'Squid Game' - which became the most-watched show in Netflix's history when it premiered in 2021 - as well as last year's hugely successful 'Squid Game: The Challenge', a reality show based upon the series.

However, as much as the reality spin-off filled a gap for 'Squid Game' fans, viewers have been left wondering if - and when - a sequel to the original series would arrive.

Netflix boss Ted Sarandos said in early 2022 that 'the 'Squid Game' universe has just begun', but there has been scant details on a release date for the sequel - until now.

**Spoilers for Season 1 ahead!**

As you may recall, the end of the first series - in which 456 people were secretly chosen to participate in a lethal series of children's games in a bid to win a large amount of money - saw lead character Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) return to Seoul after winning the game, only to discover that his mother has died. A year later, he is travelling to Los Angeles to connect with his daughter when he sees another person being recruited to the game. After managing to get their invitation card, he rings the number when boarding - only to be told to get on the plane. Instead, he turns around and goes back into the terminal building.

It certainly left the show on a cliffhanger - will Gi-hun enter a new round of 'Squid Game' to avenge the hundreds (or thousands?) of players who have died in the name of entertaining rich people? Or will he try to find out more about who is behind it?

Either way, we'll know soon - as Netflix have confirmed that series two of the show is set to arrive this year.

In an email sent to shareholders, the streamer listed the show amongst titles that are set to land in 2024.

“Looking ahead, despite last year’s strikes pushing back the launch of some titles, we have a big, bold slate for 2024. Audiences will be able to choose from hit returning dramas like ‘The Diplomat’ S2, ‘Bridgerton’ S3, ‘Squid Game’ S2 and ‘Empress’ S2; unscripted series like ‘Tour de France: Unchained’ S2,’ Love is Blind’ S6, ‘F1: Drive to Survive’ S6 and ‘Full Swing’ S2; and brand new shows like ‘3 Body Problem’ (based on the best selling novel and from the ‘Game of Thrones’ showrunners), ‘Griselda’ (starring Sofia Vegara, which premieres this week), ‘The Gentlemen’ (from Guy Ritchie), ‘Eric’ (starring Benedict Cumberbach), ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’, ‘Cien Años de Soledad,’ from Colombia based on the novel by Gabriel García Márquez and Senna from Brazil."

'Emily in Paris' season 4 is also set to arrive in 2024.
