Dot Cotton voted Leave. Pat Butcher voted Remain.
Because we live in a hellscape where politics infects our daily lives with its utter bullsh*t, it was only a matter of time before something like this came along.
Seeing as how 'EastEnders' is set in current England, follows some of the real-life events of the day, it's only right that we all have a think about which way some of the characters voted in the Brexit referendum. For example, which way would the Mitchells vote? What about Bianca or Ian Beale?
Well, standup comedian Sooz Kemper went out and did us all a service with this excellent Twitter thread detailing how the cast of characters in 'EastEnders' voted and, honestly, we can't fault it for a second.
Dot Cotton 100% voted Leave, and we all know it and are convincing ourselves otherwise. Likewise, Pat Butcher is no doubt a committed socialist and knew plenty about Harold Wilson's efforts as Prime Minister.
Take a look at a few of the highlights. You can follow the entire thread here and trust us, it's scarily accurate.
THREAD: Guys, this took AGES. How Eastenders characters voted in the EU referendum.â°â°DOT COTTON: Leave. Doesnât recognise âmy Londonâ anymore. When anyone points out the amount of foreign people sheâs friends with she goes âwell I didnât mean them, dearâ. pic.twitter.com/atP9vtCe2v

GRANT MITCHELL: Leave. Postal vote from his villa in Portugal. pic.twitter.com/LvggqrD7iO

PHIL MITCHELL: Remain. For a while it looked like he wasnât going to get in to a feud with Grant over this but then Grant called him âa Remoanerâ in the Mitchell WhatsApp group and now theyâre not speaking again. pic.twitter.com/Z2c0vOp9tk

SHARON: Remain. Always brings it back to queues at customs at the airport which isnât very relatable to most of the country but it is on salt-of-the-earth Albert Square where the average house costs ÂŁ700k. pic.twitter.com/fCsgptsBrA

PAT BUTCHER: Remain. Surprisingly good knowledge of Harold Wilson, the EEC and the three-day week. She didnât just learn it all from The Crown season 3 like most people. pic.twitter.com/FTQxFaEuE6

FRANK BUTCHER: Leave. Considered it pure treachery when Wilson went from neutral on joining the EU to positive about it following the general election. He and Pat had strong disagreements over this which is why they initially split up. pic.twitter.com/fwN3FnN5YY

PEGGY MITCHELL: Remain. Regrets the time she welcomed Boris Johnson in to the Queen Vic, now wishing sheâd ânutted the twatâ, get outta my pub etc etc. pic.twitter.com/0KR6Iluohu

BIANCA: Leave. Very keen on the theory that all politicians are liars and she doesnât trust a single one of them. Was going to vote Brexit Party on December 12th but theyâre not standing in her constituency so Farage is a traitor to her now too. Will now vote Tory. pic.twitter.com/Rsw54RrmjV

SONIA: Remain. Begins every comment about Brexit by putting a hand to her chest and saying âas an NHS nurseâ and all her points are valid but people sure are tired of hearing them. pic.twitter.com/PZOa2xHv8p

MARTIN: Remain. Posted earnest selfie of himself holding his burgundy passport the day before the referendum and friends are still giving him shit for it. pic.twitter.com/JoDNgsptbc

STACEY: Remain. Thinks raising her eyebrows and telling people âpizzaâŚkebabsâŚDanish pastriesâŚtheyâre all from Europeâ is a valid point well made. pic.twitter.com/g0anWzdw5G
