At the New York Comic Con yesterday evening, the pilot episode by co-creators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi was screened to fans.
The upcoming 'What We Do in the Shadows' will be a TV series reboot, based on the 2014 film of the same name. Clement and Waititi will now be acting as Writer and Director, respectively. In case you don't know anything about the original film, the mockumentary focuses on a group of vampires who live in New Zealand, who make references to other vampire films, and is very funny.
Now, a TV series has been ordered by FX, and will air sometime in 2019, and the pair took to NYCC to show fans at the packed Hammerstein Ballroom what they can expect from the upcoming series. According to IndieWire, Clement and Waititi revealed after the screening that they will not be reprising their roles on the series, unless "something really disastrous happened".
However, they did reveal what kind of obstacles the band of vampires will face in the series, saying “In one of the episodes … they venture into Manhattan for the first time. They’ve assumed that Staten Island is all of New York or maybe even all of America. They meet the Manhattan vampires who are a little bit cooler than they are.”
The cast of 'What We Do in the Shadows' features Matt Berry ('The IT Crowd'), Kayvan Novak ('Thunderbirds Are Go'), Harvey Guillen ('The Good Place'), and Natasia Demetriou.
Waititi was recently announced as one of the directors of the new 'Star Wars' TV series 'The Mandalorian'; while Clement finished his 'Flight of the Conchords' Ireland and UK tour at the end of the summer.
