'The Mandalorian' has booked in some quality directors for it's new live-action TV series, set to premiere on Disney's new streaming service in 2019. 

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed some of the directors that Lucasfilm and Disney have secured to helm episodes in the new 8-part series. The site has said that Directors Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Deborah Chow, and Dave Filoni are joining the show, with Jon Favreau ('Iron Man') acting as writer and an executive producer on the series.

Fans have been eager for more information on the series since there were rumblings of a 'Star Wars' series in the pipeline, back in February.

Waititi helmed Marvel's third Thor movie, 'Thor: Ragnarok' which breathed some much needed fresh air into the series; and Chow has started to make a name for herself, directing episodes of 'Fear the Walking Dead' and 'Jessica Jones'. It's the presence of Howard that is quite surprising - she, of 'Jurassic World' and 'Black Mirror' acting fame, has shot video shorts up until now, so it will be interesting to see what she will bring to 'The Mandalorian'. 

Favreau took to Instagram yesterday to make the official announcement of the new series:

The official synopsis of 'The Mandalorian' reads: "'The Mandalorian' is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. The series follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic".
