With the summer series of the hit reality TV show allegedly around the corner, it seems that viewers have been plaguing the ITV applications page, desperate to get themselves out of the house. Hey, at least they'll have something to look forward to this summer.

'Love Island' applications have gone through the roof for the regular summer series, according to sources currently working on the next instalment. According to The Sun, the reality show has received over 12,000 applications from singletons hoping to be the next Maura Higgins or Kem Cetinay.

The record amount of applications has come out of nowhere, meaning that the team behind the reality show have had to draft in extra staff just to make sure all applications are being looked over, as they search for the next big reality show star.

According to a member of the team, 'Love Island' applications: "Have gone through the roof since lockdown. Never before have so many people applied in this six-week time span.

"Over seventy per cent of the applications have come from 18 to 28-year-olds and the videos being sent in have been more creative than ever as people have more time on their hands."

So, if you've been applying for the next series, we hope you got creative with your application videos as it seems like you have quite a lot of competition ahead of you.

All this is occurring, even though the next 'Love Island' series still hasn't been confirmed by ITV. Due to everything happening right now, many TV shows and movies have been put on hold with some being forced to adapt to the strict social distancing measures currently in place. It was rumoured that our next reality TV dose of the hit show will not be taking place overseas, and will instead be filmed in the UK.

Given that anticipation for its return seems to be extremely high, will it be worth it? Let us know what you think in the Facebook comments.
