Although we're way off seeing a trailer or any kind of footage, Jon Favreau - who's directing the first episode of 'The Mandalorian', the new live-action Star Wars TV series - shared the first set photo.
It's not much, just a long rifle on top of some crates - but if you're a die-hard Star Wars fan, it'll look familiar. Here's Favreau's Instagram post.
So, what is it, you're asking? Well, the rifle shown above is the same rifle used by Boba Fett during an animated sequence in the previous live-action Star Wars TV effort, 'The Star Wars Holiday Special'. Here's that animated sequence. Boba Fett turns up around the three-minute mark and you can see it's the same rifle.
The one-off episode was so terrible, so utterly cringeworthy, that Lucasfilm never once released it on video, DVD, Blu-Ray or made reference to in any way throughout the intervening years. Keep in mind, these are the same people that even came up with a little-known spinoff about the Ewoks from 'Return of the Jedi' and put Kylo Ren on water bottles. That's how bad 'The Star Wars Holiday Special' was.
Anyway, the rifle was shown in the first promotional image released by Lucasfilm a couple of weeks ago and it obviously belongs to the title character - but who's playing him? Is it even a he?
All will be revealed when 'The Mandalorian' arrives on screens in the near future.
