Sugar... Spice... And everything nice. Oh, and some Chemical X.

The former star of 'Scrubs' seems like a suitable fit for the mad-cap scientist. Donald Faison is swapping doctor scrubs for a lab coat, as he's been cast as Professor Utonium in The CW's 'Powerpuff' live-action reboot. Since its announcement, "Girls" has been dropped from the show's title.

In the original late '90s/early '00s cartoon, Professor Utonium is the creator of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. He wanted to create the "perfect little girls" but accidentally added an extra ingredient to his concoction containing sugar, spice, and everything nice... Chemical X.

And thus, the Powerpuff Girls were born, dedicating their lives to fighting crime, and the forces of evil *cue iconic theme song*.

Donald Faison has been cast as Professor Drake Utonium for the pilot episode of the live-action reboot. He'll join the previously cast Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault as Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup.

According to the description of the character in this new interpretation of the series, the crime-fighting superheroes' father will deviate hugely from the original source. It seems like Utonium won't have a great relationship with his offspring.

The official description of Donald Faison's character is: "Quirky, debonair, and a pinch narcissistic, Professor Drake is a scientific genius who is immensely proud of the three extraordinary girls he created in his lab. Staring down a midlife crisis, he is determined to repair his relationships with his now-adult daughters."

So, it seems like his creations have grown up with a chip on their shoulders against their father figure. Should the show be picked up for series, it'll be interesting to see how this dynamic plays out - especially with fans of the original series split with this live-action interpretation. The series will follow the superpowered trio in their 20s, who are ultimately resentful of their crime-fighting childhoods.

All we want to know is how will HIM be portrayed? Will they even feature? We've probably got a long wait ahead of us until we find out.

Here's that glorious 'Powerpuff Girls' theme tune reminder for you.
