Christy Dignam of Aslan might be a regular enough guest on 'Late Late', but there's a reason for that - he's an incredible singer with an authentic, genuine personality.

So it goes that Dignam was on the couch last night with Tubridy and, during their conversation, ending up breaking into a rendition of 'And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda', the anti-war song by Eric Bogle. While the song may have a traditional twang to it, it was actually recorded in 1971.

As Bogle himself told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2002, "a lot of people now think the song is traditional. And a lot of people think that I died in the war, and penned it in blood as I expired in the bottom of a trench. I never thought the song would outlast me, but I have decided now there's no doubt it will." The song itself tells the story of an Australian soldier who's brutally maimed during the Battle of Gallipoli.

Here's Dignam's rendition of the song, in full, from last night's 'Late Late Show'.
