The reboot of hit nineties/noughties show Charmed is very much a go with the casting process in motion. First up to join the series is Melonie Diaz, who will play one of the three witch sisters.

Diaz will play Mel, who is determined to repress her ability to manipulate time after being involved in a "tragic accident". This sister will also be lesbian, with her girlfriend yet to be cast.

You may have previously seen Diaz in 2013 drama Fruitvale Station alongside Michael B. Jordan, while she also appeared in 2016's The Belko Experiment, written by Guardians of the Galaxy's James Gunn. Diaz has also had brief roles in TV shows like Girls and Elementary.

Mel's sisters Macy and Madison have yet to be cast but last week Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star Ser'Darius Blain was cast in the role of Macy's boyfriend.

The reboot is being written by The CW network by Jane the Virgin writing duo Jessica O'Toole and Amy Rardin.

The official synopsis of the new show reads: "This fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centres on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch's work is never done."

Former Charmed stars Holly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty both criticised The CW earlier this month for implying that the original series wasn't feminist, with Doherty, who played Prue Halliwell on the show from 1998 to 2001, saying:

"Their wording is terrible and a bit offensive. But, everyone makes mistakes. Perhaps with the backlash they will be more thoughtful in future.

"[It's a] very ignorant stupid comment. Perhaps made by a millennial that never watched the show and just read a synopsis on it."

No word yet on when we might get to see this on screen yet but we'll keep you posted.
