Last night's 'Bake Off' saw the judges hand out the brutal double elimination they have been threatening all season but everyone was shocked by who they sent home.

Helena and Michelle were the ones left packing away their aprons at the end of the episode in a result nobody saw coming. We had Welsh woman Michelle tipped to win after earning Star Baker in week one and she has had many successful bakes since. Helena was less of a surprise although we loved the quirky contributions she brought to the competition.

The theme of last night's 'Bake Off' was Roaring Twenties with the bakers tasked with creating custard pies in the signature challenge, beignet souffles in the technical and a prohibition-era tiered cake for the showstopper.

Both Helena and Michelle were criticised for their flavours in the signature challenge, but Helena went on to get first place in the technical while they both got fairly average judgements from their showstoppers.

Competition is tight now that we are at the half-point of the series, but still, viewers were not expecting it to be Michelle and Helena going home.

'The Great British Bake Off' continues next Tuesday on Channel 4.
