The comedic timings of the Kildare native will top off our New Year's Day viewing rather nicely, wouldn't you agree?

Aisling Bea has been lined up to make a special appearance in 'Doctor Who' on New Year's Day.

The New Year’s Day special is the first of three episodes featuring Jodie Whittaker’s final appearances as the Doctor in 2022. The follow-up episodes will air in the spring and the autumn before a new actor takes over the role.

In this new episode entitled 'Eve of the Daleks', Bea stars as Sarah, who runs ELF storage. Adjani Salmon ('Dreaming Whilst Black') is also part of the festive special as Nick, a customer who visits his storage unit every New Year’s Eve. Apparently, on this particular New Year, "their night turns out to be a little different than planned…", thanks to a visit from the Doctor, Dan and Yaz (played by John Bishop and Mandip Gill).

However, Bea won't be the only Irish actor who will be making an appearance. She also revealed that Pauline McGlynn of 'Father Ted' and 'Shameless' fame, will also feature on the episode as a special guest.

Along with pictures of herself with some of the cast, and a couple of official artworks, Aisling Bea said this about her appearance on 'Doctor Who': "DOCTOR WHAT NOW? Finally able to tell you-whovians who are interested, that I will be appearing in a very special New Year’s Day big fat Doctor Who Special alongside the Tardis trio Jodie, Mandip & [John Bishop], [Adjani Salmon] & a cameo from Ireland’s Queen Pauline McGlynn."

A first-look trailer has also been released, which shows Bea and Salmon's characters stuck in a pesky time loop situation with a nasty Dalek.

Catch Aisling Bea, Pauline McGlynn and the rest of the 'Doctor Who' cast when it airs on BBC One on New Year's Day. At the time of writing, the air time is still TBC.
