It's been five full years since Adele last released her hugely successful album '25'.

The follow-up was due to be released in September, as she revealed earlier this year (in pre-covid times), but her manager scuppered that notion over the summer.

However, it seems like she may well get in in time for the lucrative Christmas market, as there is speculation that new music is imminent.

Adele has been announced as the host of this week's Saturday Night Live, and it's very unusual for a star to host the show without something to promote.

"Bloooooody hellllll I’m so excited about this!! And also absolutely terrified! My first ever hosting gig and for SNL of all things!!!!," she wrote on Instagram. "I’ve always wanted to do it as a stand alone moment, so that I could roll up my sleeves and fully throw myself into it, but the time has never been right. But if there was ever a time for any of us to jump head first into the deep end with our eyes closed and hope for the best it’s 2020 right?"

She went on to acknowledge that her first appearance on the show 12 years ago broke her in America, "so it feels full circle and I just couldn’t possibly say no!"

The musical guest on the night will be H.E.R.

She's already got the support of fellow celebs, with Kim Kardashian telling her: "You’re going to be so amazing!!" while Katy Perry said: "OMG THE PPL ARE GONNA FINALLY KNOW HOW FUNNY YOU ARE NOW BLESS UP" and actress Gal Gadot urged her to "Enjoy the awesome ride!"

Adele isn't the only big name to (potentially) be releasing new music unexpectedly; last week, Ariana Grande told fans that her new album, the follow-up to 2019's 'Thank U, Next', would be out sometime this month. It seems that 2020 still has a few surprises in store for pop fans...
