While we still try to process that super stressful season finale, the series creator unpacks everything that went down - and teases what's next for the franchise. Watch out: Spoilers for the season two finale are below.

We finally know who's body that was that washed up to the shore, and we're still in shock to be honest. It's not that the signs weren't there all season, they definitely were, but it's always sad saying goodbye to one of your favourite characters. Well, at least she went out with a dunk. Tanya McQuoid's death may have seen her finally "live out" her "last immersive experience", but her story might not be over just yet. While it's unlikely Jennifer Coolidge will return to the character again, 'The White Lotus' season three could bring back her AWOL hubby.

Series creator Mike White unpacked the season finale with HBO this week, breaking down the episode and all of the memorable (i.e. stressful) happenings. As you can see in the video below, White wanted Tanya to go out in "derpy" style that was "just so Tanya", and her self-plop into the Ionian sea felt like the most fitting end to the heiress' journey.

Turning his attention to 'The White Lotus' season three very briefly, White touches on the gays and the conspiracy she unwittingly became wrapped up in. He says that while her assistant, Portia (Haley Lu Richardson), will most likely try to forget she knows anything, her husband Greg (Jon Gries) might not be so lucky.

He teases: "I think as far as what happens to Greg and the conspiracy of Tanya's death [...] it feels like there's gotta be somebody who's going to track it back to Greg. Maybe you'll have to wait to find out what happens."

White also breaks down the character arcs of the other remaining characters, including what he thinks actually happened between the two couples on tour (played by Aubrey Plaza, Will Sharpe, Meghann Fahy and Theo James) and all of the unspoken feelings they share.

'The White Lotus' has been renewed for season three at HBO, but some actors from season one have already expressed interest in returning to the series. Connie Britton, who played workaholic Nicole in the series' first location in Hawaii, said earlier this year that there was a storyline for her to fit into season two, but it ultimately didn't make the cut. But it could happen with season three.

Going forward, we can't wait to laugh, cry and gasp at whatever's about to unfold in the franchise next. Mike White previously said he'd love to continue the trend of setting each season in a different continent.
