The Coens' penchant for black comedies may have hit their peak with Fargo, however Burn After Reading is nevertheless a fine entry in their catalogue. An ensemble cast, made up of John Malkovich, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and JK Simmons, all play to their individual strengths. Swinton plays an ice-cold paediatrician, unhappily married to Malkovich's forcibly-retired CIA agent. She's having an affair with Clooney's bungling US Marshal who is also having an affair with gym employee Frances McDormand. When McDormand stumbles on a secret document that she believes to be CIA information (it's actually just bank records), she resolves to sell the information to the Russians. A hilarious, pitch-black caper comedy that's definitely worth your time.
