Tim Allen has spoken about the lack of connection between 'Lightyear' and his original character in 'Toy Story'.

Speaking to Extra, Allen spoke publicly for the first time about the new movie starring Chris Evans as the "real" Buzz Lightyear.

"The short answer is I've stayed out of this 'cause it has nothing to do [with my character]," Allen said. The 'Santa Clause' actor voiced Buzz Lightyear, the toy, in Pixar's 'Toy Story' franchise.

"This is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies," the 69-year-old continued.

"It's a wonderful story," Allen said about 'Lightyear'. "It just doesn't seem to have any connection to the toy, and it's a little… I don't know. It just has no relationship to Buzz. It's just no connection. I wish there was a better connection to this."

Chris Evans, who plays Buzz Lightyear in the new Pixar movie, expressed his admiration for Allen when taking up the role. "I love what Tim Allen did, and I love what Toy Story meant to me," he told EW.

"You have to understand there will be a lot of people who have an idea in their heads, but this is like when I signed on to Captain America. You know there is a baked-in-the-cake fanbase, but that fanbase is there because they have an understanding in their mind of what the character already is. So you have to honour that when you're making your choices."
