It's not just the Nordics who can do gritty crime drama avec subtitles. OK, it is a bit more obvious, and everyone's more coiffed, but it is French, ne'cest pas? Set in the dark underbelly of Paris, this drama - newly released on Netflix - follows police captain Laure Berthaud, her two lieutenants, a judge, a prosecutor, and a lawyer as they investigate and prosecute crimes. Episode one of season 1 (there's 4 in total), sees a brutally beaten body of a young Romanian woman found at a dump. Much like The Killing, investigators slowly uncover a web of corruption tied to local politics, prostitution and drugs.
