Netflix has dropped a surprise bonus episode of 'The Sandman' for fans today.

The two-part episode feature both a animated and live-action part. Part one is titled 'A Dream of a Thousand Cats' and stars Tom Sturridge as Morpheus alongside a stacked voice cast.

Characters are voiced by Sandra Oh, Rosie Day, David Gyasi, Joe Lycett, Neil Gaiman, James McEvoy, David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Nonse Anozie, Diane Morgan and Tom Wu.

McEvoy has voiced Morpheus in the Audible audiobook version of 'The Sandman' which released in 2021. Tennant and Sheen are also no strangers to Gaiman's work as they star in 'Good Omens' as Aziraphale and Crowley.

The second part of the episode is titled 'Calliope' and stars Melissanthi Mahut, Arthur Darvill, Nina Wadia, Souad Faress, Dinita Gohil, Kevin Harvey, Amita Suman and Derek Jacobi.

"We endeavoured to make the animated version of 'A Dream of a Thousand Cats' as mesmerizing and hypnotic as we could by utilizing the magic of real oil paintings on canvas," said director Hisko Hulsing.

"We combined the paintings with classically drawn 2D animation, based on realistic 3D animation of telepathic cats in order to create a trippy world that feels both grounded and dreamy at the same time."

The original 10 episodes of the series released earlier this month to critical acclaim. Based on Neil Gaiman's comics, 'The Sandman' follows Morpheus, the personification of dreams.

While trapped by a rogue occultist in a basement for decades, Morpheus' realm crumbles and decays. When he finally escapes he begins a quest to find items taken from him in his capture - his helm, sand pouch and dreamstone.

With an incredibly talented cast and strong first season, we're hopefully not too far from news of a second season. Let's keep our fingers crossed our dreams come true.

The bonus two-part episode of 'The Sandman' is available to watch on Netflix now.
