Just as the original Spanish language Netflix series draws to a close, the next iteration begins.
Remakes are a touchy subject, especially when it comes to film studios taking a classic title and rehashing it for a new audience. However, this latest remake from Netflix has us rather excited as it takes the topic of one of their biggest foreign-language TV series and sees the concept take hold in another territory. Here's all we know about 'Money Heist: Korea' so far.
The full title of the series is 'Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area', and just today Netflix has released a teaser trailer for the upcoming crime/thriller follow-up.
The original 'Money Heist' series ended on the streaming service in 2021 after three seasons which were split into five parts. Primarily set in Madrid, the Spanish-language series began in 2017 with the introduction of the "Professor" who recruits a group of people to do his shady bidding. The series concluded in December, garnering incredible praise from critics and viewers.
As you can see in the teaser trailer below, there are some very recognisable faces in the cast of this follow-up. Yunjin Kim (Sun from 'Lost') is the most notable cast member, who will play the head of the Crisis Negotiation team, Seon Woojin. 'Squid Game' star Park Hae-soo (who played Player 218 in the dystopian thriller) also joins the cast as Berlin, one of the Professor's (Yoo Ji-tae) pawns.
Also joining the series are South Korean actors Jun Jong-seo, Lee Won-jong, Kim Ji-hun, Jang Yoon-ju, Lee Hyun-woo, Kim Ji-hoon and Lee Kyu-ho.
All episodes were directed by film director Kim Hong-sun, who is known for acclaimed series such as 'Son: The Guest' and 'Black'.
'Money Heist: Korea' is the first of two planned spin-offs based on the franchise. Another spin-off, based around the character of Berlin from the original series, is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2023.
