Off the back of the incredible success of the first season, 'Squid Game' creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed he is currently in talks for the second and third season with Netflix.

Speaking to the Korea Times, he said: "I’m in talks with Netflix over season two as well as season three. We will come to a conclusion any time soon."

It's the first time a mention of a third season has come up with the show's creator. Last month, Hwang confirmed that a second season was going ahead after the huge fan reaction and demand left him with "no choice".

To be fair, the creator is right about demand. 'Squid Game' racked up a whopping 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first month on the streaming platform, making it the most viewed show in Netflix's history by a long way.

Speaking about the planned second season, Hwang said: "I promise you this, Gi-hun will return. He will do something for the world". Gi-hun was the protagonist from the first season, played by Lee Jung-jae. The character's story ended on a major cliff-hanger at the end of the final episode.

Projects for further seasons seem to still be in the early stages of planning. Hwang said last month that they were still "in his head".

"I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen."
