According to Variety, the series will delve into The Penguin’s rise to power in the Gotham criminal underworld. The series has been in development since in September, though Farrell was not attached at that time.

Lauren LeFranc will write the script for the series. Along with Farrell, 'The Batman' director Matt Reeves and the film’s producer Dylan Clark would executive produce the Penguin series. Warner Bros. Television would produce.

Farrell will play the iconic Penguin in the upcoming film starring Robert Pattinson as his nemesis Batman. When pictures first came out on set of the new movie, it was noted how unrecognisable the Irish actor looked in his new role.

The Penguin, whose real name is Oswald Cobblepot is one of the most recognisable villains in the Rogue's Gallery.

In the past, Danny DeVito, Burgess Meredith and Robert Lord Taylor all played the role as the monocle-wearing, umbrella-toting criminal.

'The Batman' already has another confirmed series in development as a spinoff. It focuses on the Gotham Police Department during "year one" and explore how the city became so corrupt. It will show on HBO Max as part of the streamer's hopes to expand the Batman universe across multiple series.

Colin Farrell makes his Penguin debut in 'The Batman', when it premiere on March 4, 2022.
