Unfortunate news broke over the weekend of former Oasis star Noel Gallagher, who has split from his wife Sara MacDonald.

The Scottish-born MacDonald worked as a publicist, and first met Gallagher in 2000. At the time, the guitarist was married to Meg Matthews, but they divorced the following year. Their daughter Anais was born in 2000.

Gallagher and MacDonald married in 2011 and have two sons - Donovan, who was born in 2007, and Sonny, who was born in 2010.

A spokesperson said: "Noel and Sara will together continue to look after their children who remain their priority.

"Noel and Sara ask the media to respect their privacy and that of our family at this time."

Tabloid reports suggest that Noel's 'partying' at Glastonbury last summer was a turning point in their marriage, with a source telling The Sun on Sunday that their marriage had "been on the rocks for a while and pals wonder if the trouble peaked when ex-Oasis star Noel went on a bender at Glastonbury Festival last summer."

They added how he had "pulled a raucous, all-nighter at Worthy Farm, partying with pals including Rita Ora until 6am."

One person who might be interested in news of their split is Noel's brother Liam, who has been open about his dislike of his sister-in-law in the past, referring to her as a "witch", claiming the Gallaghers' mother Peggy doesn't like her, and blaming her for blocking an Oasis reunion.

Liam replied to a fan on Twitter in 2019: "I've told you before he's rite up for it [a reunion] but you know who won’t let him as she doesn't like oasis music."

There was certainly no love lost between Liam and Sara, who once referred to him as a "deplorable wanker" when Liam once said in an interview that he 'didn't care' if Noel, Sara or his "fucking kid" [Anais] were abused on social media.

She reportedly responded on her private Instagram account: "His fucking kid”? You mean your gorgeous niece, you deplorable wanker. Please god (you) have dropped dead by the time my kids are on social media."

Liam later apologised for his comments on Twitter, but he has not yet commented on the latest family development - at least not in a direct way. He did, however, post several songs to Twitter - including Jay Z's '99 Problems' and The Hollies' 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother', as well as The Beatles' 'Long and Winding Road' and 'Two of Us'...
