Justin Bieber has denied accusations of sexual abuse that were levelled at him on social media over the weekend.

The pop star was accused of assaulting a women at a hotel in Texas in 2014, via an anonymous Twitter account under the name @ErinALynch.

The woman alleged that Bieber had assaulted her at the Four Seasons hotel in Austin, Texas on March 9th, 2014 - when he was in the city to make a surprise appearance at the SXSW festival.

Last night, he took to Twitter to strenuously deny the allegations, posting copies of receipts that he says proves he was not staying at that hotel, and that he was in Texas with then-girlfriend Selena Gomez and friends.

"I don’t normally address things as I have dealt with random accusations my entire career but after talking with my wife and team I have decided to speak up on an issue tonight,” he wrote. "“Rumors are rumors but sexual abuse is something I don’t take lightly. I wanted to speak out right away but out of respect to so many victims who deal with these issues daily I wanted to make sure I gathered the facts before I made any statement.”

He said that there was 'no truth' to the story, claiming that he stayed at an AirBnB one night and a Westin hotel with Gomez and  friends another night, and providing receipts featuring his pseudonym Mike Lowery as proof.

Bieber ended by saying: “Every claim of sexual abuse should be taken very seriously and this is why my response was needed. However this story is factually impossible and that is why I will be working with twitter and authorities to take legal action.”
