A trailer for the film ‘Boy Erased’ has dropped and we’ve a feeling this is going to be a biggie when it comes to awards season. The movie stars Lucas Hedges, a previous Oscar nominee for ‘Manchester By the Sea’ and co-star of ‘Ladybird,’ alongside Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe.

The film is helmed by actor-director Joel Edgerton, who people would recognise from ‘The Great Gatsby’ and ‘Loving’. Edgerton made his feature directorial debut with the critically acclaimed box office hit ‘The Gift’, which he also starred in.

Edgerton, who co-stars in and produces his latest, has also penned the screenplay for the film, which is based on ‘Boy Erased: A Memoir’ by Garrard Conley.

According to the plot synopsis, ‘Boy Erased’ “tells the story of Jared (Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents (Kidman and Crowe) at age 19. Jared is faced with an ultimatum: attend a conversion therapy program – or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends, and faith.

“Boy Erased is the true story of one young man’s struggle to find himself while being forced to question every aspect of his identity.”

This is going to be a tearjerker.

‘Boy Erased’ has a US release date of November 2nd, 2018, but there’s no Irish release date just yet.

Be sure to check out the new trailers for 'Colette' and 'On the Basis of Sex', which are sure to be awards contenders too.
