If you loved Cloverfield and its 2016 follow-up 10 Cloverfield Lane, you might be able to save yourself a trip to the cinema to see the next installment.

According to reports from Sundance, Netflix is close to a deal to acquire almost all worldwide rights to 'God Particle', the Julius Onah-directed film that is the third in the franchise.

'God Particle' is set on an international space station in low orbit around the earth, where a team of astronauts find themselves alone in the universe after an experiment makes the earth vanish. It stars our own Chris O'Dowd, Daniel Bruhl, Elizabeth Debicki and Aksel Hennie, amongst others.

Considering that Netflix recently did a similar deal for Alex Garland's 'Annihilation', it's an interesting development for both the film and the streaming service. The film's release has been delayed several times - originally slated for a February 2017 release, then pushed to October 2017, then February 2018 and the latest date has been April of this year. This was alluded to by writer Jeff Sneider - who later claimed that "You may get to see it a lot sooner than April 20, too."
