Movies don't come any cooler than this; get yourself one Sean Penn, one Josh Brolin, a bit of Ryan Gosling if he's handy, old reliable Nick Nolte for good measure and some necessary eye candy in the form of scarlett-haired siren Emma Stone and bada bing bada BOOM, you're on to a winner.

Circulating online today is the brand new trailer for Gangster Squad and this one's a lot more violent than what's gone before. Set in the 40s and 50s, GS centres on Josh Brolin's former serviceman who comes back to LA only to find it taken over by ruthless gangster Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn). Desperate to put an end to Cohen's reign of terror, Brolin - under the instruction of Nolte - gathers together a posse of the best gun-toting LAPD officers he can get. What to expect? Lots of violence, cursing, and general goodies versus baddies banter with guns 'n sh*t. Sure what more could you want?

Based on true events, Warner Brothers describe Gangster Squad as a "colourful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD's efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time."
