It's hard to believe that almost three decades have passed since 'Happy Gilmore' was released - and many would argue that a sequel is long overdue.

If you're a fan of the 1996 golf comedy that was one of Adam Sandler's breakthrough roles, there's good news - Netflix have confirmed that 'Happy Gilmore 2' is indeed on the way.

What's more, Sandler is set to return as the angry hockey player-turned-golfer, who joins the tour to earn money to save his grandmother's house.

The sequel was confirmed in a presentation given by Netflix to advertisers yesterday, although Sandler's co-star Christopher McDonald - who played his golfing nemesis Shooter McGavin in the film - had spoken about Sandler having a script ready to go.

"I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,’" he said back in March. "I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about that,’ and he shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’ Maybe you should cut that out [of this audio] because I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!"

It looks like fans got their way...
