It's been two years since the long-awaited 'Top Gun' sequel has been officially announced, and now the trailer is finally here.

Although 'Top Gun: Maverick' is not set for release until 2020, audiences get their first taste of Tom Cruise reprising one of his most famous roles as Maverick in the new footage.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, little is known of the plot for 'Maverick' apart from the fact that Cruise is now an instructor at the Top Gun school, where he apparently clashes with the son of his former co-pilot, Goose.

The trailer sees Cruise pulling some pretty crazy stunts in an F-18, although the rumour that he learned to fly fighter planes has never been fully confirmed. Either way, it looks pretty dammed realistic.

The film also stars Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman and Ed Harris.
