Lena Dunham's newest film 'Catherine Called Birdy' stars Bella Ramsey as a 13-year-old girl trying to escape marriage in medieval times.

Lena Dunham's third feature film is set in a Medieval English village in 1290, where teenage Lady Catherine (Ramsey) is assigned the task of finding a husband. Her father (Andrew Scott) is determined to capitalize on the marriage of his eldest daughter Catherine in order to save their manor. The only issue? Tween Catherine refuses to comply.

In the trailer we see some very medieval humour - yes, there's a joke about smallpox - but some very prescient views about gender equality and women's rights. They are themes of which Dunham has form and Ramsey seems like an excellent vehicle to carry out her points.

Within the trailer we also see Russell Brand as a hopeful groom, who seems to be quite easily duped. Billie Piper stars as Catherine's worrying mother.

Star of 'Conversations with Friends' Joe Alwyn also features. He plays Catherine's handsome co-conspirator in her attempts to escape her father's wishes.

The film is written and directed by Dunham and adapted from Karen Cushman’s novel of the same name. Lesley Sharp, Sophie Okonedo, Ralph Ineson, Isis Hainsworth, Dean-Charles Chapman and Paul Kaye.

Ramsey played the Lyanna Mormont in 'Game of Thrones'. She'll also star as Ellie in the upcoming HBO TV adaptation of 'The Last of Us'.
