At this stage you most definitely have heard of Blumhouse. And if not, you've definitely heard of their productions.

Blumhouse is the studio behind such low-budget high-yield horror franchises as 'Paranormal Activity', 'The Purge', 'Insidious' and 'Sinister'.

They also produced 'Get Out' while non-horror features include 'Whiplash' and 'BlacKkKlansman'.

Its founder Jason Blum has been a producer on pretty much all their productions, boasting over 150 credits to his name.

But while he's fostered the talents of such directors as Jordan Peele, Leigh Whannell, Christopher Landon and Mike Flanagan, he has never ventured into directing himself.

We sat down with Blum and Whannell for their latest collaboration, 'The Invisible Man'.

Blum told us why directing doesn't spark an interest in him: "I would be a terrible director. It would be my worst nightmare, Leigh could tell you.

"First of all, I like doing lots of things at once. I couldn't imagine just doing one movie over the course of a year.

"But second of all, I think one of my biggest, if not my biggest strength as a producer, is I've no desire to direct. So I don't feel like I need to prove my self worth...

"I don't spend a lot of time on our sets, I don't feel I have to micromanage our directors, I am in awe and admire [their work].

"Someone asked earlier what inspires you. I think what inspires me the most is working with talent, with talented people, people who are great at what they do. And it's a very nice thing for me not to want to direct but instead get to support directors."

Reflecting on his favourite Blumhouse movies, Blum explained: "The movie that changed the company the most, besides 'Paranormal Activity', was probably 'The Purge'.

"When we did 'The Purge', people felt like it wasn't just a magic trick, that there were actually some good results from what we were doing. We weren't just getting lucky."
