Although it had been rumoured for some time, THR has now confirmed that Billy Dee Williams will return as Lando Calrissian.

The actor, who turned 81 this April, will reprise the role that launched him into popular culture as the gambler-turned-General from 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'Return Of The Jedi'. Casting announcements for 'Episode IX' have picked up in the past couple of days, as 'The Americans' star Keri Russell is understood to be in final negotiations to star in an unspecified role.

Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega are set to return in their respective roles, however plot details have been kept a tightly-guarded secret for the time being. The same goes for Lando Calrissian's involvement, as there's no word if his role is merely just a cameo or if there's more to it.

Lando Calrissian was previously played by Donald Glover in 'Solo: A Star Wars Story'.
