Keri Russell is in early talks to join the cast of 'Star Wars: Episode IX'.

The star of 'The Americans' and 'Felicity' - which, funnily enough, was created by JJ Abrams - is understood to be playing an "action-heavy" role, but Variety's report didn't mention if she'd be playing a good or evil character.

Russell and Abrams have a lot of history, not just with 'Felicity', as the actor also starred in JJ Abrams' feature-length directorial debut, 'Mission: Impossible III'. Variety's report also adds that at least two more actors are set to be announced before production begins at the end of July.

There's been no confirmed word on the exact plot details of 'Episode IX', but it's understood that Abrams has been hunkered down with co-screenwriter Chris Terrio for several months. Terrio's screenplay for 'Argo' won him Best Adapted Screenplay, and has since worked on (gulp) 'Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice' and 'Justice League'.

'Star Wars: Episode IX' arrives in Irish cinemas on December 20th, 2019.
