Anton Yelchin's parents have decided to take legal action following their son's tragic death in June.

The Star Trek Beyond star was killed in an horrific accident that saw his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee roll backwards and pin him against the security gate of his house. The incident was officially ruled an accident. However, it later emerged that the jeep was one of 1.1 million cars recalled by manufacturers over a fault with the gear shift.

According to TMZ, the Yelchin family are now seeking punitive damages "for the wrongful death of their son due to significant defects" in the Jeep. A class action suit was already filed against Fiat Chrysler (which makes the Cherokee) in the days following Yelchin's death but the report from TMZ says that they're also going against the car manufacturer, ZF North America as well as the AutoNation car retailer chain.

The family are expected to formally announce the lawsuit alongside their attorney at a press conference later today.
