Many of us have movies that defined our childhood. Mostly because they fill with up with the delight and excitement one can only feel as a kid. For others, it was because they scared us half to death.

Whether you've revisited those movies since or can't even look at the VHS cover/DVD cover/general images of them anymore (anyone else do that thing where you turn the video or DVD in towards the wall so you can't see the title and little picture from them anymore?), there's at least one filum from your youth that you'll never forget, for all the wrong reasons.

@loudandfearless aka Ashley Bower posed the question to the Twitterverse and it got quite a response.

 

Many mentioned 'Pinocchio', which sees a naughty child get turned into a donkey. Others referred to the Child Catcher of 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang', another terrifying prospect for kids all round.

 

Still others quoted 'The Wizard of Oz'. Or worse yet, its follow-up 'Return to Oz'.

 

Others picked more traditional horrors like 'Jaws', 'The Shining', 'The Exorcist', 'Poltergeist' and 'Nightmare on Elm Street'.

 

Meanwhile, some were scarred not by being afraid but heartbroken and traumatised from the reality and finality of death.

They thus chose 'The Lion King' and 'The Land Before Time' among other childhood classics.
