Although it's been talked about and been rumoured for quite some time, 'Sister Act 3' is officially happening.
EW reports that the movie will be made specifically for Disney's streaming service, Disney+. Plot details are light, but it's understood that Whoopi Goldberg isn't involved. According to EW's source, "this is not a continuation and Whoopi is not involved." This, however, counters Variety's source that says she is involved.
This, in turn, echoes what Whoopi Goldberg told 'Good Morning Britain' a couple of months ago, when she said that "it won’t be 'Sister Act 3', it’ll be a brand-new rendition of 'Sister Act', and I guess I’ll walk through a scene and that’s how they’ll say I was part of it."
Regina Hicks and Karin Gist, who worked on 'Insecure' and 'Star' respectively, are set to pen the screenplay. As it stands, there's no word on when the movie will be released on Disney+ and casting has yet to be announced.
Disney+ is expected to launch in 2019.
