Xbox Game Pass has been a hit for Xbox in recent years, and now Irish gamers will be able to take part in a trial for a family plan.

For the uninitiated, Xbox Game Pass allows users to pick and choose from a rotating list of hit and indie titles from the Xbox family, along with some third-party games.

Irish and Columbian users with the service will now be able to test a sharing feature, and will be able to add up to four people to their subscription, as long as they’re all in the same country.

"Starting today in Colombia and Ireland, Xbox Insiders can begin to preview a plan that allows multiple people to share Game Pass Ultimate benefits," said Microsoft senior technical manager Tyler Mittleider.

"This makes it even easier to play the best Game Pass games with friends and family across console, PC and cloud by enabling you to add up to four people to your subscription."

Users who want to take part in this trial need to sign up for the Xbox Insider preview plan from the Microsoft Store, and only one user needs to be a part of this preview.

The version of the family plan is being offered in Ireland for €21.99 per month, per the The Verge, which is higher than the Ultimate plan which runs at €12.99 a month, but is cheaper overall if five people take part.

Family plans are common, with the likes of Netflix, Disney+ and Spotify offering family plans, but a plan like this is still fairly new territory for the gaming industry.

Since launching in 2017, Xbox Game Pass has been a hit for Microsoft, and subscribers on the Ultimate tier will be able to get massive blockbuster titles like 'Forza Horizon 5' and 'Halo Infinite' as part of their subscription, with the titles being added to the service on day one of their release.

Xbox Game Pass has been so successful, that it prompted PlayStation to launch their own rival service this summer.
