(pretends to look shocked)
Reality television is, whether anyone likes to admit it or not, a scripted medium.
The actual words coming out of people's mouths may not be scripted, but there's an element of massaging stories into life, or in some cases, re-shot moments that didn't come through correctly on screen. Of course, the gas part is that when reality television began so many years ago with 'Big Brother', it was sold on the basis of people being monitored twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.
Nowadays, you've got shows like 'Love Island' where scenes are re-shot if the words didn't come out properly, or if a text was misread. Maura Higgins made the not-at-all shocking admission on the Instagram account of 'The Late Late Show' , explaining that it was often done to accommodate her own speech patterns.
"Just say, for instance, if a text came through and you were loud or if you stumbled on your words, you'd have to re-take obviously. Some words I'd say wrong and I had to do it again. That happened a lot, actually," Maura admitted.
Here's the Q&A session where it was revealed.

Again, to be honest, none of this should surprise anyone - primarily because it's a common thing with productions like this. You're dealing with mic packs, people who don't usually appear on television and know about volume spiking and so on, so it's kind of common to re-shoot scenes - or, at the very least, simply edit over it.
Still, moments like Maura flinging her wine glass over her shoulder - that can't be scripted.
