You read that headline correctly, folks.
If there is any way, any way at all, to get Keanu Reeves into a movie and make it better, rest assured directors are now going to wrack their brains to find out.
Just look at the first trailer for 'The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run', which features Keanu Reeves playing a wise - sagely, you might even say - sagebrush. It's basically just an extended cameo, but come on, who honestly cares? It's Keanu Reeves dispensing life advice in an animated movie where the main character is an underwater sponge.
Any kind of grasp on reality is out the window from there. Considering how genuinely enjoyable the first two movies in the Spongebob-iverse were - they even got Motorhead to do a song for one of them - there's a lot to be excited about here. For one, Spongebob Squarepants is one of the few animated series that's lasted this long and remained consistently funny. Not only that, it's aged very well and while the change in animation might be somewhat offputting, the original voices and characters are all still present.
'The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run' hits Irish cinemas some time next year.
