The Rolling Stones have revealed the support act for their forthcoming Croke Park gig next month.

The iconic band also unveiled the full support details of their UK tour this morning, with huge acts like Liam Gallagher, Elbow, James Bay and Florence and the Machine opening in cities like London, Manchester and Cardiff.

However, Dublin audiences will have to temper their expectations somewhat as the Irish support act is somewhat lesser known.

Young Westmeath band The Academic will open for Messrs. Jagger, Richards and co. at Croke Park on May 17th, saying: "How do we feel about playing a show with The Rolling Stones at Croke Park? I think we are all still getting over that phone call! To be sharing the stage with the greatest rock and roll band of all time in a venue that we’ve always dreamed about performing in is a bit surreal. We grew up on their music. Now that we’re playing Croker with them it’s a dream fulfilled!”

A limited number of extra tickets for the gig went on sale this morning from usual outlets.
