When you're in Willie Nelson's position, it seems that you can do whatever you like. In the case of this grizzled old outlaw, it means recording a completely instrumental album, presumably designed to give his backing band their day in the sun. The result is a collection of sprightly country-jazz workouts, sticking mainly to old standards such as Sweet Georgia Brown. Nelson clearly had great fun making this and the mood is infectious - it's surprisingly enjoyable stuff even if you do yearn for just a snatch of that lived-in voice, which sadly never comes.
