Footage has emerged of David Bowie fans singing 'Happy Birthday' to him down the phone at a gig held in New York last week.
Friday marked the star's 69th birthday, and also the release date of new album 'Blackstar', just two days before his death.
His long-time producer and friend Tony Visconti was playing a gig in New York with his own band Holy Holy, and their set included several Bowie covers like 'The Man Who Sold the World.'
During the gig, he held up the phone to the audience, encouraged them to sing 'Happy Birthday' and left a voicemail for Bowie.
Yesterday, Visconti paid tribute to his friend, saying: "He always did what he wanted to do. And he wanted to do it his way and he wanted to do it the best way. His death was no different from his life - a work of Art. He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift. I knew for a year this was the way it would be. I wasn't, however, prepared for it. He was an extraordinary man, full of love and life. He will always be with us. For now, it is appropriate to cry."
