Having taken a sabbatical this year, Slane looks set to return to Ireland's festival calendar next year - and speculation is already rampant as to who will headline.

As per the Irish Times, Slane looks like it's earmarked to be the first big outdoor concert of next summer with the newspaper quoting sources in Meath County Council who say that initial licensing applications for late May have been opened by Mountcharles and concert promoters MCD.

Much like the last Slane in 2013, it is also speculated that a second Slane concert could take place at a date in August. Bon Jovi and Eminem headlined Slane's two concert in 2013.

As for who will play next year, it's understood that U2 won't be available but Australian rockers AC/DC have been heavily rumoured.

The Irish Times quoted Mountcharles as saying that he had "absolutely no comment on the fact that I have no comment."
