More than 21,000 people have signed an online petition aimed at persuading the UK's Honours and Appointments Secretariat David Spooner to award a knighthood to the bat-eating, hell raiser Ozzy Osbourne.

The petition, which you can find on Causes.com, maintains that Ozzy's knighthood is "long overdue", due to Ozzy's contributions to music over the years. The petition has seen a rake of activity over the final few days of its availability online (it has now expired, by the way).

Ozzy has been awarded various honours throughout his music career, including an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 as well as the UK Music Hall of Fame for his work with Black Sabbath and also his solo career but a knighthood would clearly signal that Osbourne has become one of UK public life's most beloved figures since he mellowed out in his old age.

It remains to be seen whether or not the powers that be would consider someone with such a 'storied' past as Ozzy for one of the UK's most prestigious titles but, should they go ahead with it, we guarantee that he'd be a very popular choice for the honour.
