This year has already seen a bewildering array of post-club chillout albums, most ranging from the derivative to the downright shoddy. In Melody AM, however, Norwegian duo Royskopp may well have produced the pick of the bunch. Taking their inspiration from three decades of electronic dance music, Svein Berge and Torbjorn Brundtland have put together a seductive concoction of sounds from the archives and come up with some beautifully dreamy melodies in the process. It's not all straightforward comedown fare either, with the mood occasionally enlivened by a burst of house grooves and cinematic funk. Consistently inventive and masterfully compiled, Melody AM is a superb album which should go a long way to cheer up those long winter evenings.
