Percy Sledge, the soul singer best known for his song 'When a Man Loves a Woman', has died at the age of 74.

Sledge passed away at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana this morning, according to reports.

A native of Alabama, Sledge worked as a hospital orderly before finding fame and success in music in the 1960s and 1970s.

His agent Steve Green confirmed his death, saying "He was one of my first acts, he was a terrific person and you don't find that in this business very often. He was truly a standout."
